I helped build a first-place HACC 2025 professional category project: an AI-powered academic planning app for personalized University of Hawaii degree pathways.
Overview
I helped build Interstellar to generate personalized UH degree pathways from student goals, interests, transcripts, and transfer documents. We won first place in the professional category at the Hawaii Annual Code Challenge 2025.
What I built
I led a two-person team and built full-stack workflows for semantic pathway search, course matching, document parsing, semester-by-semester visualization, course replacement, local persistence, and PDF export.
Engineering focus
I used React, TypeScript, FastAPI, OpenAI-powered reasoning, LanceDB vector search, and UH course/pathway data to turn messy student inputs into useful academic plans.
